Teaching classes and leading rehearsals during the week; football games
JOB SUMMARY
The primary purpose of this position is to serve as the director of Marching and Symphonic Bands, and to provide direction or oversight for all of the instrumental ensembles. The successful candidate would also serve the department through teaching in the School of Music, specifically courses related to instrumental music education.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential Functions:
Direct all aspects of Marching Band
Direct all aspects of Symphonic Band
Teach coursework as needed in the Music Education curriculum and as needed in the School of Music
Provide oversight for all instrumental ensembles, including, but not limited to Jazz Band, Pep Band, and Chamber Ensembles
Provide oversight for all instrumental adjunct faculty
Recruit music majors and non-major ensemble participants
Advise students in the Music Education degree program
Manage the Marching Band budget
Coordinate band involvement at athletic events with the Athletic Director
Provide service to the university through participation in committees
Participation in local, regional, and national professional organizations is expected

Master's degree in music
Minimum of three years experience teaching music at the high school or collegiate level
Ability to prioritize multiple demands in a fast-paced work environment
Preferred Qualifications:
Demonstrable success teaching in higher education
Demonstrable success in recruitment of student musicians
Professional performance experience

Supervision Received:
Receives supervision and work assignments from the Chair of the School of Music
Supervision Exercised:
Responsible for the coordination of work assignments for band assistants and student employees
Responsible for communication and coordination of instrumental adjunct instructors in cooperation with the Chair of the School of Music
