Our Client is looking to add a Construction Materials Technician to join their team. This is a great opportunity for someone with some basic construction experience that would like to learn more about the business and increase their technical skills.
Construction Materials Testing Technician is responsible for traveling to construction project sites and working independently to perform a variety of testing and inspections on all materials related to construction including but not limited to: soils, concrete, aggregates, asphalt, and masonry. Our company works in both commercial and residential construction but is primarily focused in residential construction. Experience is preferred but not required.
Duties & Responsibilities
Review and/or observe soil conditions for foundations and roadways
Perform soils testing by observing placement of fill material and performing nuclear density tests
Perform a variety of field testing and inspection of materials used in all stages of construction
Complete concrete testing per the American Concrete Institute and Michigan Concrete Association including temperature, slump, air content, making and curing cylinders/beams for strength testing, and operating the break machine
Monitor asphalt paving operations, conduct nuclear density testing, and sample material for laboratory testing
Review plans for projects to determine required specifications and verify materials meet specifications and record and communicate any deviations to project supervisor and client
Work with client and client's contractors to provide routine advice on site and call in to our staff engineers for questions on significant unforeseen conditions
Properly and accurately relay all inspection data and observations into a typed report daily
Work with local and state agencies to perform testing and inspections that are in accordance with the requirements of national, state, and local agency standards
Requirements
Ability to travel to local Southeast Michigan construction sites and own/possess a vehicle to transport testing equipment to construction sites
Valid driver's license and satisfactory driving record
Ability to read and interpret project plans and specifications as well as maps and directions
Ability to work outside in all weather conditions
Ability to repeatedly stand, stoop, bend, kneel, and carry all equipment required for testing on varying terrain
Ability to work overtime and occasional weekends during construction season
