The Rural and Minority Health Research Center's Research Assistant Professor is to engage in independent research as a principal investigator or co-principal investigator on externally funded projects. The Research Assistant Professor will prepare and submit independent research grant proposals through USC's Sponsored Awards Office to external funders in a Primary Investigator or /Co-Primary Investigator role. Once funded, the Research Assistant Professor will develop a management plan for each research project using the timetable and work plan approved by the funder to ensure 100% completion of deliverables in a timely manner.The Research Assistant Professor will conduct policy-oriented health services research by analyzing trends and data incorporating existing research and literature reviews. As the scope of work objectives are completed, progress reports are provided to the funder. Manuscripts in appropriate peer reviewed publications are expected for most funded projects. As part of research dissemination, the Research Assistant Professor will attend local, state, and national conferences and meetings. Participation in project and staff meetings is required.
Doctoral Degree in Public Health or closely related field by date of employment. Available for local, state, and national travel.
Applicant should have experience working as a named investigator on grant funded research projects and a record of peer reviewed published manuscripts. A distinct interest or experience in rural health, minority health disparities, and/or chronic disease epidemiology. Available for local, state, and national travel.
Experience submitting grant applications for external funding as the PI. Strong statistical and data management skills working with both qualitative and quantitative data. Ability to build a publication record and submit grant applications of a national scope.
With the support of the Arnold School's Office of Research and USC's Sponsored Awards Office, the Research Assistant Professor will identify external funding opportunities followed by the preparation and submission of independent research grant proposals as the Principal Investigator or Co-Principal Investigator.
