Job Description:

The Air Force Institute of Technology is seeking a creative and innovative colleague who can bring the Institute to the next level of excellence in achieving its vision to be a leader in defense-focused education, research, and consultation.

The Director of the Center for Innovation in Education (CIE) leads the CIE, including overseeing mission execution, establishing strategic directions, and nurturing relevant partnerships. This position ensures that CIE services for faculty, staff, and students are effective and aligned with the needs of AFIT's schools by organizing and managing the CIE Board of Advisors, engaging with the Chief Academic Officer and school deans, participating in AFIT-level committees, and conducting evaluation of CIE programming. The Director also manages the daily operations of the CIE, overseeing staff activities and program development, as well as budget planning and developing relevant initiatives to enhance teaching, assessment, communication, research, and other skills of faculty, staff, and students. The Director cultivates relationships with other teaching and learning excellence organizations within the Department of the Air Force, Department of Defense, other federal organizations, and non-federal academic institutions to share best practices and learning opportunities. The Director also supports new faculty orientation and ensures programming in areas of educational methods, writing and communication skills, educational foundations, innovative pedagogy, interpersonal relations and other areas. In addition, this position researches best practices and pursues continuous improvement of CIE services and programming for the AFIT community, preparing reports and analyses highlighting accomplishments, opportunities for improvement, and trends in adult learning and higher education instruction.

AFIT is a federal institution located at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base near Dayton, OH. The Institute provides defense-focused graduate education primarily for the U.S. Air and Space Forces and the Department of Defense. AFIT has been accredited by the Higher Learning Commission since 1960. Qualifications: Applicants must be US citizens. Qualified candidates will have a Masters degree or higher, and need to possess the ability to communicate clearly and expertly (in English) in both verbal and written forms concerning academic, administrative, and technical subject matters. Qualified candidates will also have a minimum of three years employment at an accredited college or university, either teaching or managing activities core to teaching and learning. A doctoral degree relevant to the duties of the position or the academic disciplines offered at AFIT is desired. Demonstrated experience applying pedagogical theories, educational technologies, instructional design, and assessment strategies to improve student learning outcomes is desired, as is experience using multiple educational technology tools to support teaching and learning in virtual and in-person environments. Also, proven experience in leading and managing teams to improve a college or university learning environment is desired, as well as strong networking skills and track record of engagement with various stakeholders internal and external to an institution to build partnerships and collaborative initiatives. In addition, demonstrated ability to develop and implement a strategic roadmap for teaching and learning initiatives aligned with institutional goals and objectives is desired. Furthermore, excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively inspire diverse campus constituents to adopt relevant best practices, and active involvement in relevant professional societies are desired. Proficiency in financial planning, budget allocation, and fiscal responsibility are also desired.
