I am

like the very old apple tree

my spine is a

bent and crooked trunk

my limbs

are gnarled old branches

reaching up toward the sky

and someday

these branches will bear fruit

they may not be

perfect apples

they may be

a little bruised

but inside the core

they're as sweet

and as juicy

as fruit from Eden

so now you see

that it doesn't matter

what the skin might be like

its what's on the core

that counts
