The Comcast Media Center Broadcast Engineering team is seeking a highly-experienced industry professional with a proven track record in the management of a large scale on-air program origination, production and post production engineering operation. This individual will report to the Senior Director, Broadcast Engineering and will be responsible for the management of the 24x7x365 Broadcast Engineering Operation including Digital Content Management and Software Solutions services. This position will be the primary liaison to other divisions of the Comcast Media Center and to Customers regarding products & services enhancements, special initiatives and overall performance as relates to the Broadcast Engineering Operation.
This is a full-time, management position that requires regular commitment and availability outside of normal business hours, often with little advance notice.
- The daily management of the Broadcast Engineering operations in conjunction with the respective groups' managers.
- The development and deployment of new standards and practices to improve service uptime, staff efficiency, and overall quality of service.
- The management and professional development of the Broadcast Engineering team members in conjunction with the respective Managers.
- Act as liaison to other CMC division Representatives and Customers as necessary for the support of scheduled activities, special events, system maintenance, new system Operational Readiness Testing, issue resolution, and all performance-related escalations.
- The creation and management of the operating and maintenance budgets to within strict tolerances.
- Manage all annual maintenance agreements and required upgrades to legacy systems.
- The applications engineering and proposal efforts associated with service enhancement requests in conjunction with Customer Solutions, Business Affairs and Finance.
- Lift and carry loads up to 70 pounds.
- Comply with all established procedures and policies of the Comcast Media Center.
- Other functions that may be assigned.
Required Skills:
- Bachelor Degree or equivalent broadcast industry experience.
- Demonstrated experience in managing the deployment of broadcast technology or other high-availability technology
- Proven track record in managing a broadcast operation, broadcast engineering operation or other high-availability technology platform and related staff.
- Extensive operational and administrative knowledge of all popular broadcast systems and technologies including but not limited to Sports/Newsroom management systems, broadcast automation, media servers, signal processing, graphics engines, master control & production switchers, digital audio mixers, production cameras, signal routers, non-linear editing and transcoding systems, archive management and content storage systems, interactive television and materials exchange formats.
- Strong understanding of advanced compression technologies and distribution formats.
- Knowledge of HDTV production, origination and distribution technology including, but not limited to, variable frame rates, multi-channel audio, and related bandwidth requirements.
- Fundamental knowledge of IP networking, transport and datacasting technologies related to media creation and distribution.
- Previous experience in software development, or the management of a software development team on a project basis.
- Ability to read and understand CAD/ VidCAD signal flow, mechanical and architectural drawings. (Working knowledge of VidCAD preferred but not required)
- Must have the ability to work in a dynamic, sometimes-stressful, client-shared environment.
- Demonstrated ability to interact with clients and internal groups in a professional and courteous manner.
