• Support Earthstation operations by maintaining transport, uplink and video systems without supervision.
• Communicates effectively and can update documentation as necessary.
• Demonstrates a complete and thorough knowledge of facility systems and signal flow.
• Creates documentation and operational procedures as required.
• Troubleshoot anomalies and system problems without supervision.
• Support Earthstation operations by installing and maintaining Video, IP, ASI, DS 3 transport, uplink and video systems and provides support to Earthstation supervisors.
• Demonstrates leadership to peers and junior technicians.
• Supports Earthstation Supervisors with the facility and technical issues.
• Develops training material and procedures for staff training and development.
• Thorough understanding of IP technology, Mpeg, SDI, analog and HD fundamentals.
• Participates in process improvement activities.
• Duties/Competencies include:
1. Demonstrated familiarity with IP technology and IP delivered video platforms.
2. Completion of core task program or appropriate external experience.
3. Mastery of audio and video fundamentals both analog and digital.
4. Comprehensive knowledge of various telecommunication transport mediums and encryption methods, to include ASI, DS3, OC3, OC48, SDI, DVBS2, DVB, DC2, SA PowerVu and BISS.
5. Demonstrated mastery of all IRD configuration, router operation and antenna and HPA uplink operations.
6. Demonstrated mastery of basic test equipment: ie: spectrum analyzer, VM700, Waveform monitor, MPEG analyzer, power meter, and a DVM.
7. Demonstrated diverse familiarity of all test equipment to include but not limited to the items below:
• All Spectrum Analyzers
• All RF Power Meters
• Network/Protocol analyzers
• Klystron sweep gear
• Rasterizer
• DeKTek Mpeg analyzer
• VM 700/Waveform Monitors
• DVMs/ DTMF decoders and Generators
• Fiber Optic Power Meters
• Signal Generators,
• All Audio analyzers/meters
• All Mpeg Analyzers, Treveni, Sencore MIB, Thales, etc.
8. Demonstrated ability with Encoder and modulator configurations in support of occasional feeds and fulltime uplinks.
9. Demonstrated ability with all antenna operations and maintenance procedures.
10. Demonstrated ability with all IP technology used at the CMC including configuration and troubleshooting, or equivalent experience.
11. Maintain fiber optic transport mediums
Required Skills:
Minimally interacts with customers to correct and solve routine technical issues while working closely with co-workers.
Diagnose and correct problems with Analog and Digital video and audio.
Operate and monitor telecommunications systems under established protocols.
Analyzes and resolves system performance issues.
Utilize appropriate test equipment to address system performance problems within established guidelines.
Installs, maintains, and operates; high powered transmitters; and high loading voltage power supplies; run cabling and cable tray overhead from ladders or under floors within prescribed procedures.
As requested, responds to, repairs, or bypasses any; electronic or service failure; building system failure; AC or DC power system failure; air conditioner failure; backup power system, i.e.; diesel generator (1.5 Mega Watt) 600 volt UPS and 600 Volt battery string.
Performs maintenance on: telecommunications systems; Satellite Antennas; site support systems; company/site vehicle or any site equipment with coworkers.
Performs routine testing of electronic systems and AC & DC power systems.
Climbs towers, wave-guide bridges, roofs, ladders and antenna pedestals for installations, maintenance and inspections.
Operates assigned vehicles, which includes tractors, forklifts, and high lift bucket vehicles, reaching in excess of 40 feet.
Carries and lifts loads of up to 70 lbs.
Travel as required.
Complies with all established procedures and policies of Comcast.
Performs other functions as may be assigned.
