The Role
Provides technical support to engineers on a variety of technical tasks. Gathers, maintains, formats, compiles, and manipulates technical data, such as laboratory or material test results and engineering design changes. Produces engineering documentation, reports, drawings (flow charts, block diagrams, and schematics). This position will be responsible to collect data, review, coordinate and conduct high pressure air focused test procedures. The job will require hands on deck plate support as well as providing technical guidance and troubleshooting instructions by evaluating vendor furnished equipment, drawings and test procedure requirements. Looking for a self-starter with a questioning attitude to proactively impact the high pressure air test program and maintain a high level of quality while ensuring schedule demands are met.
The mission of Test Engineering is to operationally validate ship systems by developing, managing and conducting an integrated safety, test, and work control program for non-nuclear systems across all Newport News Shipbuilding product lines. Being that the test team are among the first group to energize, test, and operate shipboard systems in their final configuration, a total ship test approach allows this group to be a single point evaluation source for planning, test procedure development, pre-installation bench testing, troubleshooting, repairs, systems enhancements, material sourcing, shipboard testing, operating and certification. Our team of engineers, analysts and technicians are required to be well versed in the design and installation of ship systems, and expert in their operation. As an Engineering Technician employed at Newport News Shipbuilding, you will become an integral part of the hands on deck plate test team responsible for ensuring the United States Navy has the most advanced Submarines in the world while contributing to the company's success of delivering quality boats to the US Navy.
