The Opportunity: The Associate will work in both the technical and operational sides of compliance-related issues. S/he will have the opportunity to work across a broad spectrum of clients across the markets. The Associate will interact with attorneys, Fund Office professionals, clients and Segal staff, while producing a full array of deliverables related to compliance.

The Role:  Responsibilities may include:


  • Draft compliance related information for participant explanatory material such as summary plan descriptions, announcement letters, summary of material modifications, summary of benefits and coverage documents, etc.

  • Draft and review plan documents, amendments, forms, required compliance notices and operational procedures for compliance, etc.

  • Conduct research and manage requests and questions from Segal practitioners and benefit consultants.

  • Serve as a ‘generalist’ supporting Health and Retirement benefit related issues.

  • Interface with other Segal associates as well as benefit consultants and clients on relevant compliance topics.

  • Project management and tracking of compliance projects as needed.

  • May attend client meetings to make technical compliance-related presentations or other relevant tasks as requested

  • Make in-house and external presentations on new developments in legislation and regulation or other technical compliance issues as needed.


  • Bachelor’s degree in related field is required;

  • Prior related work experience related to employee benefits plans preferred;

  • Knowledge of ERISA and related legislation and regulations beneficial;

  • Understanding of benefit plans, PPACA and COBRA helpful.

  • Critical skills include excellent communications skills (verbal/written); ability to perform research quickly and effectively, involving federal and state legal issues; ability to work independently but also be able to collaborate effectively with others; being action-oriented and detailed; have the ability to thrive in fast-paced environment with multiple conflicting deadlines tactfully; and proficiency in project management.

The current salary range for this position is $58,000 to $80,000 plus opportunity for a discretionary performance bonus based on company profitability and employee performance.
