Responsibilities

What you'll be challenged to do:







TranSystems, Formerly NCM Engineering Corp, seeks a motivated and talented entry level roadway/civil engineer to join our growing engineering team. This position involves development of plans, specifications, quantities takeoff, and estimates, and review and preparation of technical reports for a variety of projects which includes but not limited roadways, highways, general civil, storm water, traffic, and utilities design projects.  Day-to-day assignments will be provided by Senior Engineers and Project Managers who will also provide necessary training and technical direction. This position may involve coordination with clients, subcontractors, vendors, and personnel in multiple TranSystems Southern California (Irvine, Santa Ana, Corona, and San Diego) offices.

General Duties & Responsibilities:


  •  Contribute to the design of local roadway or state highway improvements projects by preparing reports, contract drawings, cost estimates and specifications, special provisions

  • Research design alternatives, code requirements and present findings

  • Be familiar with and use standard references, standard plans, standard specifications, and design guidelines/manuals/bulletins to complete design tasks

  • Use CADD best practices to draft engineering drawings

  • Communicate regularly with the Senior Engineers and Project Manager as to expected results, workload, and progress

  • Communicate and attend meetings with clients, subconsultants, and other project stakeholders.

  • Participate in the quality control process by reviewing your own work (a self-check) or the work of others within your realm of experience.

  • Perform other design-related tasks, as required, such as researching utility records, preparing technical reports, and conducting field visits

  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies







Qualifications

What you bring to our firm:







  • Bachelor of Science from an ABET-accredited program in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Environmental Engineering or related

  • Working knowledge of Office 365 Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)

  • Have oral communication skills for working effectively with other team members, senior engineers, managers, clients, subconsultants and stakeholders as the project may require

  • Demonstrate written communication skills for preparing technical reports, reviewing technical writing, and preparing emails, memos and other written communications

  • Be detail oriented and demonstrate dedication to learning, developing, and implementing quality control/quality assurance procedures and best practices

  • Ability to handle a workload of multiple concurrent projects, prioritize effectively and meet tight deadlines

  • Actively engage multiple perspectives when solving problems, motivated to learn from peers, and encourage reciprocal learning among team members






What we’d prefer for you to bring to our firm:


  • Engineer-In-Training (EIT) on path to PE preferred

  • Experience working with Caltrans, County of San Diego and other local agencies (cities and counties)

  • Experience with civil design packages such as MicroStation OpenRoads, MicroStation InRoads, or AutoCAD Civil 3D is a plus.

  • Strong work ethic and interest in joining a team of engineers who are passionate about their work

  • Experience in leadership roles and proven ability to take the initiative in a close team environment

  • Readiness to advance soon to the next career level, take on more complex technical work and work with less oversight and more independence

This compensation range is specific to the State of California and takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; internal peer equity; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled. At TranSystems, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $70,000 - $80,000 annually.
