Job Description:

The position reports to the Vice President for Research (VPR) and is part of

the OVPR leadership team. This position oversees key compliance and

research integrity activities in support of the Office of the Vice President for

Research and the campus community. Colorado State is undergoing an

unprecedented period of success in research and scholarly activities. The

successful candidate will have substantial experience overseeing a broad

array of research compliance and related activities and will have a record of

integrity. They will have had experience leading the development and

implementation of institutional programs and operational strategies for

major non-financial regulatory compliance issues governing research to

ensure that current University policies and procedures are sufficient to

minimize and prevent risk of non-compliance.




The AVP for Research Integrity and Compliance is a key leadership position

within the OVPR, providing strategic vision and operational efficiency to

successfully lead, develop, facilitate, and support campus research

compliance services which meet the needs of faculty, creating new service

practices and partnerships, and delivering outstanding services.




The AVP is responsible for all aspects of the Integrity and Compliance

portfolio including policy and program development and improvements,

supervising teams, and addressing compliance issues in a sensitive and

service-oriented manner. The person in this position oversees human

research protections; conflict-of-interest and conflict-of-commitment

compliance and training; secure and global research (including export

control, controlled unclassified information, classified research, and OFAC

compliance); research integrity and the responsible conduct of research;

biosafety; and animal care and compliance operations. Activities include

representing the office in all compliance inspections by federal, state, or

other agencies. The position acts as the Research Integrity Officer (RIO) in

matters related to research misconduct and research related misconduct.

The incumbent will be responsible for ensuring that all research compliance

programs are service oriented, customer service focused, and ethically driven

as well as compliant with federal, state, and university policy. The successful

candidate will identify and implement program improvement activities in

close collaboration with unit directors, other OVPR leaders, and key campus

stake holders. They will analyze, interpret, and summarize regulations,

policies and procedures, reports, and legal correspondence and documents;

handle sensitive and confidential information with the utmost discretion; and

respond to questions or concerns from internal customers and regulatory

agencies and present the university position in understandable and

unambiguous terms. The AVPRIC should also possess excellent oral, written,

and interpersonal skills and the ability to think strategically and make

recommendations on the appropriate course of action across a broad range

of research compliance and integrity matters. The AVPRIC should have the

ability to identify and achieve objectives with minimal guidance, and both

foster and work in a fast-paced, team-oriented service environment. They

should possess strong analytical, organizational, and team-building skills. The

AVPRIC should effectively set priorities and meet commitments, often under

pressure and with aggressive timelines.




The AVPRIC will partner with the OVPR's Research IT team in the successful

development, implementation, and maintenance of the Kuali Protocols and

other software solutions and systems of record for the successful

management of the AVP compliance portfolio. This work with Research IT

includes research security as outlined in NSPM-33.




This position is expected to be on-site most of the work time. The VPR Office
