Department Information



The Herman B Wells Center for Pediatric Research conducts basic science and translational research within the Department of Pediatrics at Indiana University School of Medicine. The Wells Center houses more than 200 faculty investigators, staff, and trainees seeking answers to the most pressing questions related to childhood illness.


With the collaboration between scientists and physicians, the center aims to increase knowledge of causes and mechanisms of serious pediatric diseases. Our goal is to develop innovative approaches to the diagnosis and treatment of sick children in Indiana and beyond.


A Research Technician position is available in the Firulli lab which is within The Wells Center for Pediatric Research at the Department of Pediatrics Indiana University Medical School in Indianapolis (IUSM). The environment is a highly supportive integration of basic science and clinical research that is a fast-paced, offering a unique environment for training.



Job Summary



The Firulli lab is interested in gaining an understanding of the transcriptional control modulating cell specification and differentiation during embryonic development. The central focus has been gaining an understanding of the role that the Twist-family of bHLH factors play in this process. Employed are a number of approaches including promoter analysis, expression analysis, histological preparations, as well as standard molecular and developmental techniques involving DNA, RNA, and proteins.


General Responsibilities

• Performs a wide variety of complex experiments and reports results.


• Keeps organized analytical data of performed experiments.


• Provides support for equipment maintenance as needed.


• Acts as a liaison to students and laboratory personnel for training.


• Maintains laboratory supply requisition and management.


• May train junior-level staff.


• May help plan experiments or short-term goals.

Qualifications



EDUCATION



Required

• Bachelor's degree in science or related field (molecular and/or developmental biology highly desired).

Working Conditions / Demands



The role regularly requires the ability to effectively communicate. The role frequently requires the ability to move about the work environment and to position oneself to operate laboratory equipment effectively. The role requires the ability to move objects weighing up to 25 pounds and will occasionally work near moving mechanical parts. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

Advertised Salary



$38,000 - $43,000 per year based on experience, skill level, education, and training.
