Starting Rate: $38.13 - $51.30

OVERVIEW

Supervise assigned Operators and the Dispatch functions; respond to accidents, passenger incidents and vehicle mechanical problems. Conduct studies or projects as needed and will participate in hiring. Operating hours are from 3:00 am – 10:45 pm Monday through Friday and 7:00 am – 9:00 pm on Saturdays and Sundays. Work is conducted based on the schedule assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

High school graduation/GED and three (3) years of increasingly responsible transit operations experience including one (1) year of lead work and/or supervisory experience. In-depth knowledge of Kitsap Transit operations policies and procedures will be considered in lieu of increasingly responsible transit operations experience. The following qualifications are additionally required for this position:

  • A valid Class B CDL with airbrake restriction removed and passenger endorsement
  • At least two years of experience driving a vehicle requiring a Class B CDL with airbrakes and passenger endorsements OR
  • At least two years of experience as a behind-the-wheel CDL instructor for vehicles requiring a Class B CDL with airbrakes and passenger endorsements or greater.
  • A driver’s license for at least 5 years

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Serves as a liaison between passengers and the agency
  • Supervises and schedules assigned Operators
  • Ensures staff training on scheduling and dispatch software
  • Investigates and responds to: accidents, services discrepancies or procedural proble
  • Makes recommendations for improvements in operations and participates in hiring Operators
  • Collects and analyzes data for reporting purposes
  • Reviews and provides input for updates to various agency manuals, guides, policies and procedures
  • Initiates corrective and/or disciplinary actions
  • Must drive a minimum of two (2) hours semiannually in each vehicle type operated by Kitsap Transit

ADA and Other Requirements:

Positions in this class typically require: balancing, stooping, reaching, standing, walking, lifting, dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard and other equipment, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions. Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20  pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, electrical currents, vibrations, fumes, odors, dusts, gases, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, intense noises, travel, and environmental conditions such as disruptive people, imminent danger, or a threatening environment. Requires field work and travel.
