Job Description:

The Department of History at the University of Richmond invites applications for the William Binford Vest Chair in History, to begin Fall 2024. We seek a colleague with an outstanding record as a teacher-scholar of the Civil War and Reconstruction eras whose work advances the study of the political, social, and/or cultural history of the US South. The successful candidate must be eligible for appointment at the rank of full professor, but applications from advanced associate professors who would be eligible for promotion are encouraged to apply. We seek candidates who can contribute to inclusive excellence through their research, teaching, and service.

The University of Richmond is located in a city crucial to the Civil War, rich in relevant archives, and surrounded by sites of public memory. We welcome applicants who can utilize these local opportunities for undergraduate research and community-based learning in ways that also center our values of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging.

The University of Richmond is a private university located just a short drive from downtown Richmond, Virginia. The University of Richmond is committed to developing a diverse workforce and student body, and to modeling an inclusive campus community which values the expression of difference in ways that promote excellence in teaching, learning, personal development, and institutional success. Our academic community strongly encourages applications that are in keeping with this commitment. For more information on the Department and its programs, please visit https://history.richmond.edu.
