ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT


The Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) at SAIC supports all studio and academic departments and programs. As a campus-wide resource, we facilitate an accessible, diverse, equitable, and inclusive culture through programming and resources that represent critical, reflective, and embodied pedagogical practices.


ABOUT THE POSITION


The Center for Teaching and Learning seeks an Inclusive Pedagogy Specialist. Reporting to the CTL Director, this position will design resources that support and model inclusive pedagogies throughout all levels of SAIC's curriculum. We are particularly interested in a candidate with experience using learning management systems (i.e. Canvas) and assistive technologies to address the needs of diverse learners, particularly students with accommodations. Additionally, we welcome applicants with training and experience that represent our commitment to anti-racism, decolonization, feminisms, and LGBTQIA2S+ issues and concerns.


RESPONSIBILITIES

As a member of the Center for Teaching and Learning, the Inclusive Pedagogy Specialist will provide general assistance to the CTL Director by designing, implementing, and assessing professional and educational development opportunities for SAIC's educators. The successful candidate will contribute to the CTL's ongoing effort to center accessible and inclusive pedagogical practices and collaborate with SAIC offices and partners, including the Disability and Learning Resource Center and the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.


  • Support school-wide teaching and learning initiatives that develop and implement innovative, inclusive learning environments to enhance student engagement and persistence within the context of an art and design institute;

  • Offer expert support for learning accommodations and disabilities, including developing both print and digital resources for accessible teaching strategies and learning opportunities;

  • Work closely with CTL staff, DEI Office, Disability Learning Resource Center, Office of the Dean of Faculty, and SAIC faculty and staff to support inclusive, accessible, equitable frameworks and practices for student learning, including methods for Universal Design for Learning and/or anti-racist pedagogy in studio-based learning settings;

  • Work directly with faculty, including individual consultations, groups settings, formal workshops, learning communities and other committees by providing training materials, updates, and outreach as it relates to accessibility, inclusive pedagogical practices, and differentiated instruction;

  • Support the professional development of new faculty and part-time faculty by coordinating workshops and seminars;

  • Help build a vibrant teaching-focused faculty community across all of the schools at SAIC.


Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Disability Studies, Instructional Design, Special Education, arts, design, or humanities required

  • Minimum of 1 year of professional experience with accessibility and disability services in higher education required

  • Proficient with Google Applications and MS office required.

  • Experience with studio-based pedagogy a plus

  • Master's degree preferred

  • Ability to recommend and create equitable and accessible assignments, digital and analog learning objects, and/or related curricular materials;

  • Evidence of cultural competence and inclusiveness; sensitivity to and understanding of diverse perspectives, including those of academic, socioeconomic, culture, race and ethnicity, ability, gender, sexuality, and intersectional identities;

  • Experience using effective current and emerging assistive technology;

  • Knowledge of, or willingness to learn, ADA regulations, guidelines, and standards as applicable to higher education;

  • Academic/practical appreciation of the arts (studio, performing, literary) or art education.

  • Leadership facilitating conversations on the topics of equitable learning design;

  • Experience managing multiple projects and working independently with minimal supervision.

  • Occasional lifting of objects up to 25 lbs.
