Job Description:

Risk Management is the process to identify, assess, manage, and control potential events or situations to provide reasonable assurance regarding the achievement of the organization's objectives. The Risk Assurance Manager must be a highly motivated risk professional with excellent analytical, organizational, risk management, project management, and communication skills to coordinate activities to direct and control an organization regarding identifying, measuring, monitoring, assessing, and leading projects to mitigate risks and to promote the efficient and effective achievement of organizational objectives. The Risk Assurance Manager will be responsible for working with business partners to identify and consult on potential risks to the organization.

The Risk Assurance Manager must have a strong foundation of knowledge related to financial institutions and the business units with whom they will be working, laws and regulations, processes and associated controls, and good risk management practices. The Risk Assurance Manager has a broad level of exposure across business units and will have the opportunity to work with the business units to create and implement innovative solutions to appropriately manage risks. The demands and high-visibility nature of this position require a risk management expert with a proven ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment and who can begin contributing immediately.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES (reporting structure):

This position reports directly to the AVP, Internal Audit & Risk Management. There are two staff that report to this position.

  • Risk Analyst

NATURE & SCOPE: (daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly tasks, duties and responsibilities):
  • Lead day-to-day execution of Enterprise Risk Management (ERM), including assessing risk management effectiveness; designing risk and compliance reporting frameworks; conducting reviews; developing training; supporting the organization's enhancement of enterprise risk management; business continuity planning.
  • Execute and lead vendor management, insurance management and system access control. Lead day-to-day execution of enterprise business continuity planning, risk assurance self-assessments, and control reviews for systems access and staff access.
  • Provide analytical support to enhance formal ERM methodologies including the identification, assessment, prioritization, tracking, mitigation, and reporting of enterprise risks.
  • Design and develop surveys, dashboards, scorecards, and reports using metrics to support the enterprise risk management function and evaluation of risk across the organization.
  • Listen to business unit needs and apply collaborative critical thinking to solve complex problems.
  • Apply a high-level of understanding of risk management to shape and improve projects and processes; support, monitor, and execute tactical plans.
  • Proactively initiate ideas for significant process improvements or mitigation.
  • Contribute to innovation that has a high impact a on efficiency and/or enhanced quality.
  • Coach, mentor and train staff, as well as other team members.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION, SKILLS, & ABILITIES (qualifications and experience required for this position):
  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in risk management, business, finance or a related field, from an accredited college/university. MBA or advanced degree encouraged.
  • Minimum ten years of recent experience in risk assurance management, compliance, vendor management, business continuity, information security or quality control.
  • Active certifications such as CAMS, CRISC, CUERM, NCRM, CRCM, etc.
  • Advanced knowledge of COSO ERM or ISO 31000 and COBIT frameworks.

Other Education, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Minimum three years of experience managing and leading project teams and direct staff.
  • Tech savvy and expertise in office automation tools and industry leading technologies.
  • Strong analytical, communication (oral and written), and personal computer skills. Ability to gather, compile and present data in a clear and logical manner.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with an ability to gain respect of business partners and senior leadership.

MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES (major responsibilities of the position):
  • Oversees the development and implementation of annual enterprise risk management plan as well as day-to-day vendor management program and operations.
  • Manages daily operations of the Risk Management department, which includes enterprise risk management, business continuity planning, vendor management, insurance, access control reviews, risk control monitoring and self-assessment review processes.
  • Accountable for and acts in a leadership capacity for multiple complex and critical processes, programs and projects for the Risk Management department.
  • Serves as a key contributor in cross-functional teams.
  • Monitors, maintains, and reviews credit union general liability, bond, property and related insurance coverage and overall claims activity associated with these policies.
  • Provides operational support for the Risk Management department

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS (sitting, walking, climbing, lifting, etc.)

Ability to tolerate periods of continuous sitting. Ability to lift up to 10 pounds. Ability to concentrate on tasks and sit in meetings for extended periods.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS (indoors, outdoors, desk, etc.)
  • Work is primarily performed within a cubicle office setting, or a home work environment. It may be subject to standard background noise found in an office environment.
  • Required to visit business sites and branches.

**This position may be filled at a higher level depending on qualifications

Staff is expected to perform various tasks, projects, and administrative duties as assigned.

Management reserves the right to assign or change duties and tasks to this position at their discretion.

Salary Range

$103,610.9720 - $129,513.7150
