Do Keywords belong in your Resume?

This is an interesting question. First of all, what is a keyword? What is it used for and why does it matter? A keyword is a word or a phrase that people type into a Google, Yahoo or Bing search engine that will display what they are looking for. A good example? Lets say that you are a person with a disability and you are on the NET and you are looking for a job. What will you type into the search engine to locate the best place to find that job? Relevant keywords and or keyword phrases for that are: disabled jobs, jobs for the disabled, disability employment just to name three. When these keywords are entered into the search engine, sites who have jobs for people with disabilities will show up. Hiring managers, recruiters as well as small business owners will do the same. These individuals will frequent job boards where they can find the kind of job seeker that they are looking for. In the case of people with disabilities, our site: www.disABLEDperson.com would be the job board of choice. How do they search our resume database? Well, they search by keywords and or keyword phrases. That is why it is important for you to use keywords in your resume. What keywords should you use? That is the 64 million dollar question. First of all, think as if you were the hiring manager. What keywords would you search for if you were doing the search? Put those words in your resume somewhere. Secondly, ask your friends or family, they may have good input. Thirdly, you may want to check with a professional resume writing service. In my opinion, the best way to determine what keywords to use is to simply look at job descriptions in your field. Look at a number of them. You will start to see a trend of words that are in each one of them. Make sure you use those words in your resume. It will help to get you found, read and maybe interviewed. Even more specific. Customize your resume to a specific job advertisement. If you see a particular job that you want to apply for, make sure the resume you are submitting for that job has keywords that are found in that particular job advertisement. Of course this all takes time. However, it will be worth it as it will help you show up in a search. Hope this help? Good luck! www.disABLEDperson.com www.JOFDAV.com
