Emailing your Resume
I know, you are thinking "Of course" how else will I get my resume to the hiring manager? But wait! There is a correct way to email your resume. I will outline some steps that you need to take to make sure it goes smoothly. Some will be very obvious and some won't. Here it goes! 1- Read the directions completely. Do not assume you know what the hiring manager wants. Follow the company's rules. For example, the company's site may want your resume to not exceed 1 page. Please do not send them 2 pages? The company may ask you to apply separately for each position you like. Please do not apply for more than one at a time? You get my drift? Read and follow directions! 2- This is a big one in my opinion. Send your resume to the email listed on the job description. Some of you are thinking "Of course" where else would I send it? Others know what I mean. Many people will look at the company's site and try to find the hiring manager or Human Resource person responsible for that position and email them their resume. That is a bad idea! Why? Because that is not following directions. It will demonstrate many things to the employer that you will not be a good candidate in most instances. Also, do not call the company looking for the hiring manager. Do what they ask, it is your best shot. 3- If you are applying for a position online and emailing your resume to the company, you need to make sure that you do not have an email verification system in place to screen your emails. Get rid of that while you are looking for work. Very few if any hiring managers will go the extra mile to send you an email. They will just move on. Your lost so get rid of it until you get the job! 4- Don't change your email address if you have applied for work using your email as a means of contact. 5- Make sure your subject line is professional and appropriate to the position. For instance is should read something like: John Doe-Resume for Assistant Manager Position Req # 12345 6- If the company wants a Word attachment, make sure you save it as a doc file. One that bears your name and what the file is about such as John.Doe.Resume I know that I stated some things that are obvious. Hey! I had to fill the page right!. I hope this helps you. Good luck! www.disABLEDperson.com www.JOFDAV.com
