Oversees the nightly operation of the pharmacy. Ensures the safe and effective use of medications by providing optimal drug product selection, dosage regimen design, effective administration, drug therapy monitoring services, and supervision of the medication dispensing process in the Medical Center.

department is recruiting for a Clinical Pharmacist to help improve the quality
of care for patients on nights in a seven day on, seven day off rotating
schedule. These pharmacists will actively participate on an
interdisciplinary sepsis response team to improve antimicrobial selection and
stewardship efforts. The pharmacists will also provide overnight clinical
support to the emergency department including participation on all alert
response teams. The successful candidate will also provide clinical support
including order optimization/perfection through verification support,
completion of clinical consults, and response to drug information inquiries.
Applicants should be proficient in emergency response and critical care
situations, pharmacokinetics/dynamics and have excellent communication and
collaboration skills. Team members will also participate in reporting
ADRs, perform MUEs and quality reviews. Clinical pharmacists will have the
opportunity to assist with precepting pharmacy students as well as PGY-1 and
PGY-2 pharmacy residents. 


  1. Oversees nightly pharmacy operations.

  2. Demonstrates proficiency in Pharmacy distributive services.

  3. Maintains a role providing clinical pharmaceutical care to patients.

  4. Provides drug information to customers inside and outside of the Medical

  5. Practices pharmacy in accordance with regulations.



  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree required. Pharm.D. degree strongly preferred.

  • Experience: No experience required. PGY-1 residency plus PGY-2 residency in Critical Care strongly preferred.

  • License/Certification:  Commonwealth of Virginia State Board of Pharmacy License required. American Heart Association (AHA) Health Care Provider BLS certification required.
