Position Description

The Development Manager works as part of the 7-person operations team and closely with the 3-person development team to raise money through grants and conference sponsorships to support GEO's work. The Development Manager contributes to the development of the annual fundraising strategy and helps execute the plan to raise between $2.5M - $3.0M in grants and sponsorships annually. S/he is responsible for writing all of GEO's grant reports and proposals, manages the Leadership Circle and Key Account programs, and works closely with the Director of Operations to steward GEO's program officers. The Development Manager is an excellent writer with previous experience with development writing. S/he has experience as a project manager, specifically in mobilizing colleagues around a shared goal. This person has a commitment to providing excellent customer service, both to external stakeholders and internal staff. The Development Manager reports to the Director of Operations and should expect to travel once to twice per quarter.

  • Researched potential professional development opportunities for yourself in preparation for a goals conversation with your supervisor

Qualifications

  • Five to eight years of relevant work experience with a background in development/fundraising
  • Demonstrated excellence in verbal and written communication with a range of stakeholders
  • Proven project management experience, including attention to detail, ability to manage multiple relationships simultaneously and timely follow through
  • A critical thinker who is able to draw connections between a funders priorities and an organizations work
  • Knowledge of foundation grantmaking
  • A self-starter who is also willing to help and support other colleagues' work
  • Commitment to and experience working in the nonprofit sector
  • Experience using a fundraising database (Salesforce preferred)
