Position Summary

This position performs routine accounting tasks and supports the accounting team as needed.  This position is responsible for identifying issues and concerns within the scope and complexity of their job and elevating these to the senior accounting team.  Request guidance when decisions are outside established parameters.  This role individual will support the businesses of Harland Clarke Holdings.

Key Duties / Responsibilities - Essential duties are identified by asterisks.

General Accounting:  Prepare and analyze account reconciliations as assigned.  Responsible for identifying issues and concerns within the scope and complexity of the job and may identify possible solutions.  Adhere to established accounting procedures, policies and assigned tasks.  30%

Month End Close:  Prepare and provide adequate documentation for journal entries.  Review account balance and activity to ensure completeness and accuracy for assigned accounts.  Maintain key department files and other duties as deemed necessary.  Provide support to the Accounting team as required.  25%

Audit:  Responsible for providing support for the internal and external audit requirements, as assigned.  Ensure documentation is aligned with financial statement balances and demonstrates an appropriate audit trail.  Pull source data, create scans and tick mark source material to support the accounting team audit requirements. 15%

Process Improvements and Procedures:   Demonstrates a commitment to the process for continuous improvement and is open and responsive to change.  Maintain desk top procedures and ensure business processes are in place to ensure we will meet or exceed our goals and key performance measures. 10%

Provide administrative support to the senior accounting team and management as required.  15%

Special Projects:  Participate and provide support to projects as assigned. 5%

Education & Knowledge Required

A. Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.

B. Must have sufficient college course work in Accounting without a major in Accounting.

C. General working knowledge of Accounting principles.

D. SAP, Oracle, Hyperion Essbase experience a plus

Experience / Skills / Abilities Required

A. Two years of accounting experience preferred.

B. Must have good written and oral communication skills. 

C. Strong Excel skills preferred.

D. Access and Hyperion Essbase skills are a plus, but not required.

Supervisory Responsibility

None

Communication & Contacts Required

Contact generally with senior accounting staff, with some interaction with internal and external auditors.  Limited contact with the business or FP&A team.  Must be able to communicate effectively both written and oral.

Decision Making


Some decision making responsibility, but required to offer recommendations in such a manner that will lead to final decisions.

Physical Requirements / Working Conditions

Sedentary Work - Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the body.  This kind of work involves sitting most of the time.
