Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District is seeking a Senior Capital Project Manager (CPM) with building Construction Management, Architectural, and/or Engineering background to manage, coordinate and direct the implementation of complex capital improvement projects relating to facilities on District preserves in Santa Clara, San Mateo, and Santa Cruz Counties. The Senior CPM will spearhead the vertical infrastructure segment of the Engineering & Construction Department by providing expertise on the design and construction of new and existing structures including houses, bridges, offices, facilities, boardwalks, and barns. More specifically, as owner's representative, the Senior CPM will manage and direct the work of consultants on the District's new high-profile Administrative Office (AO) and South Area Field Office (SAO) projects through the phases of programming, design, permitting, and construction. This position will supervise staff and direct consultants and contractors to assist in completing these capital projects. The ideal candidate is an organized, professional, and collaborative self-starter with excellent oral and written communication skills, who enjoys working in a group dynamic.

About the Position: The ideal candidate will have relevant and solid experience to manage, coordinate and direct the implementation of complex capital improvement projects through programming, design, permitting, and construction and oversee the work of different consultants (Architects, Engineers, Cost Estimators, and Construction Managers). In addition, the candidate will provide frequent verbal and written reports to staff, including Department Managers and the General Manager's Office, as well as the Board of Directors at public meetings. The candidate will serve as an in-house vertical infrastructure (buildings, bridges, and structures) expert and provide technical expertise during project development, design, review, permitting, construction and maintenance of a variety of structures, infrastructure, and facilities projects. The candidate must have the skills to foster communication and collaboration with other District departments to coordinate project requirements; work effectively with local jurisdictional agencies to meet permitting requirements and keep permitting review on schedule; manage and direct design consultants; oversee the work of and negotiate with contractors; and maintain detailed and current project documentation. Work Environment: This position will operate in the Engineering and Construction Department at the District's office in Los Altos, California. In addition to working in an office setting to complete project tasks and at various venues across the San Francisco Peninsula to present information at public meetings, the Sr. Capital Project Manager will often work in the field and hike steep terrain and wildland areas with poison oak and wildlife. Fieldwork will require driving District vehicles in remote areas on dirt roads, working in temperatures ranging from cold and blustery to hot and dry, and hiking in steep, mountainous terrain.
Education and Experience: Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:
Equivalent to graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in construction management, architecture, civil or structural engineering, or a related field, and five years minimum of increasingly responsible experience in project management, preferably in building structures. The Senior CPM level requires independent experience conducting more complex projects exercising greater judgement and initiative, and three years of progressive supervisory or managerial experience is desirable. Master's in Engineering or Architecture, and/or a professional license (PE, SE, Architect) is highly desirable. Public agency experience is a bonus.
Licenses & Certifications Required: Possession of a valid California Driver's License.
