Car and Driver’s senior editor is responsible for the conception, assigning, editing, and creation of the magazine’s Upfront section. Will also contribute news, features, and car reviews for Car and Driver magazine and caranddriver.com. The senior editor works closely with the deputy editor and editor-in-chief to maintain quality, tone, and editorial direction. Primary responsibilities include: assigning Upfront feature/news/infographic stories to staff writers and a stable of freelancers, with input from the executive and deputy editors; editing stories for content, voice, and style; shepherding stories through the production process; evaluating vehicles and writing reviews, drawing on staff opinion, C/D history, and style; managing editorial calendars and story placements; contributing story ideas to the magazine and website; attending press events and auto shows on behalf of C/D, working closely with other members of staff to plan coverage; managing freelancer needs and requests; and other duties as assigned. Candidates must have at least 5 years of professional writing and editing expertise in auto journalism, with the ability to evaluate all types of vehicles with consistency and objectivity; excellent knowledge of the automotive landscape; and good interpersonal behavior and management skills.
