Communications Specialist Opportunity Overview



 


As a Communications Specialist with Banner Bank you will perform  writing and public relations functions for multi-channel communications strategy as a member of the Public Relations/Communications team and the greater Marketing Department. This position has a special emphasis on managing the company’s employee communication portal, with additional responsibilities supporting media relations tasks and other PR projects.


 


As a Communications Specialist with Banner Bank you will have the opportunity to:


 



  • Support the Bank’s communications needs by researching, writing and publishing a wide variety of high-quality, targeted content for internal and external audiences

  • Employ PR best practices to deliver engaging messages, clear communications and brand-appropriate content

  • Responsible for developing various business communication pieces, client letters, etc.

  • Understand the strategy behind each communication and balances that with what the audience needs to know and how they want to consume it

  • Serve as a subject matter expert of best practices in grammar, messaging, writing and style, as well as content creation, distribution and maintenance

  • Support the VP, PR & Communications in building and delivering the company’s internal communication strategy by developing people, culture and industry stories that directly reinforce our vision, mission and purpose and that tie to the company culture

  • Function as the primary content curator, writer and editor for the employee communication portal, including daily content creation, scheduling and working within SharePoint to publish

  • Proactively identifies content appropriate for publishing and collaborates with internal subject matter experts to develop and publish engaging content, always valuing collaboration

  • Utilize current industry nomenclature and stays informed of information relevant to this industry while ensuring accuracy and brand awareness

  • Assist team as needed with media relations, employee and client communications and marketing projects, including some administrative tasks in support of the team and the Bank’s overall success

  • Use discretion, poise and tact when interacting with internal clients, members of the community and other stakeholders

  • Utilize well-honed organizational and technical skills within a team environment to effectively promote the brand and contribute to the company’s success

  • Monitor and tracks all media mentions, assembles and issues daily media tracking report as well as other media-management and reputation risk monitoring responsibilities as assigned

  • Be flexible to adapt to changing needs and priorities, the ability to manage timelines and meet deadlines, while juggling multiple projects and remaining a detail-oriented, collaborative team player

  • Adhere to and meets all deadlines to assure timely completion of deliverables and execution of projects, adhering to quality standards and with limited supervision in a fast-paced work environment


 


Travel: Overnight travel as required


 



QUALIFICATIONS



Education & Certifications




  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism or a related field



Experience




  • Five years of progressively responsible writing experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations relating to marketing within a bank


 



Preferred Skills




  • Experience writing about finance-related topics

  • Demonstrated expertise in writing and PR project coordination are required

  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret financial and credit information and governmental regulations Ability to write business correspondence and effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers and clients

  • Adept at writing in AP Style as well as standard business-writing styles

  • Experience needed in understanding how to adjust writing style and content to the channel and audience while maintaining the bank’s brand voice

  • Must possess proven proofreading and editing skills and an outstanding commend of the English language

  • Able to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists

  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form

  • Demonstrated ability to work with computer software and Microsoft Office

  • Experience working as a content manager/creator in Microsoft SharePoint environment

  • Complies with policies, procedures, security requirements and government regulations
