West Virginia University Institute of Technology (WVU Tech), part of the West Virginia University system of campuses, is seeking an innovative, strategic and dynamic leader for the Campus Provost position at the new WVU Beckley campus. The Provost will provide visionary leadership for academic-related affairs and report directly to the Campus President.

WVU Tech has entered an exciting era of revival and rededication. On September 1, 2015, the West Virginia University Board of Governors voted unanimously to make Beckley, West Virginia the new home of WVU Tech. The new Provost will play an integral role in shaping the academic culture of WVU Tech during this unique time in its history.

WVU Tech offers more than 40 academic programs in two colleges: the College of Business, Humanities and Social Sciences and the Leonard C. Nelson College of Engineering and Sciences. Serving 1,600 students – representing more than 30 states and 25 countries – WVU Tech consistently ranks among the top 100 undergraduate engineering programs by U.S. News & World Report and has been ranked as number one in the state for student return on education investment by Payscale. WVU Tech is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission and is governed by the West Virginia University Board of Governors and the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission.

The Provost will work with deans to provide rigor and relevance to residential and online academic programs, assist faculty in the implementation of innovative teaching methodologies, support and foster research and outreach initiatives, lead faculty development and evaluation, achieve and maintain program and institutional level accreditations, develop actionable program assessment tools, and maintain a collaborative relationship with the main campus in Morgantown, West Virginia.

The successful candidate for the position of Provost will have:

  • A doctoral degree
  • Eight (8) years of academic record in teaching, research and service, with an emphasis on four-year programs
  • Minimum of four (4) years in a substantive leadership position with a record of progressive responsibilities; and
  • A strong academic record appropriate for a tenured faculty appointment at the professor level
