West Virginia University Research Corporation is seeking applications for a WVU
Extension Service Health Educator to serve Hamshire and Mineral Counties. The
purpose of this WVUES position is to provide health education programs that
help individuals, families and their communities maximize and maintain healthy
In order to be successful in this position, the ideal candidate will:
- Assist with collecting and
analyzing data to identify community needs prior to planning,
implementing, monitoring, and evaluating programs designed to encourage
healthy lifestyles, policies and environments.
- Serve as a resource to assist
individuals and other healthcare workers or the community, and may
administer fiscal resources for health education programs.
- Identify, recruit, enroll and
graduate participants from the WV Family Nutrition Program.
- Teach pre-approved nutrition
curricula, resources, recipes and materials to groups of low-income
families and adults in a variety of settings, including community centers,
schools, faith organizations, summer camps, food pantries, etc.
- Collect pre- and post-data to
show changes in knowledge, behaviors and skills.
- Prepare and submit records,
reports, forms, surveys and other methods of collecting information, as
well as maintain accurate and updated databases.
- Maintain an appropriate
learning environment for low-income participants based on current research
- Recruit, train, and recognize
- Acquire donations, such as food
items, non-food supplies, space or funding to complement ongoing program
- Maintain and submit accurate
time records, expense reports and credit card receipts as required by the
FNP Administrative Team and WVU Extension Service.
- Manage monthly/annual budget
for supplies and travel, as well as inventory records.
- Develop and maintain positive
relationships with a variety of community organizations and agencies,
including the county Board of Education, Department of Health and Human
Resources, faith-based organizations, food pantries, Health Departments,
- Attend and participate in
statewide, regional and local meetings, and professional development as
- Travel within both counties to
meet grant goals.
- High school graduate
- At least three (3) years of
- Knowledge of principles and
methods for curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for
individuals and groups, and the measurement of training effects.
- Knowledge of group behavior and
dynamics, societal trends and influences, human migrations, ethnicity,
cultures and their history and origins.
- Ability to read and interpret
documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions,
and procedure manuals.
- Skilled at writing correspondence
and preparing reports.
- Ability to add, subtract,
multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common
fractions, and decimals.
