Clemson University is seeking a Director of Major Fellowships to lead a new Office of Major Fellowships. The Director will collaborate closely with faculty and departments across the university to develop and oversee the recruitment and preparation of students applying for major fellowships, and to advise and guide deliberations during faculty nomination committees. The Director will create a team that will increase the awareness of fellowship opportunities among the Clemson student body and will lead the development of effective and efficient models for student fellowships advising and outreach. The successful candidate will be a highly organized, student-focused individual with exceptional written and oral communication skills. This position will report to the Executive Director of the Honors College.
Oversees all aspects of the application process for nationally competitive student scholarships and fellowships, including, among others, the Rhodes, Marshall, Truman, Goldwater, Fulbright, and Churchill Scholarships and the National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship. Supervises Major Fellowships Office staff, including Associate/Assistant Director and other personnel.
Promotion and Publicity:
Supervises efforts to promote awareness of major fellowships opportunities among Clemson undergraduate and graduate students, including but not limited to students in the Calhoun Honors College. Activities include workshops for faculty and students and individual meetings with interested students.
Advising and Mentoring:
Coordinates and/or provides advising and mentoring to prospective fellowship applicants. Works with students and provides feedback as appropriate on the preparation of written fellowship applications. Works with faculty to provide mock interviews for students as necessary and appropriate, and in preparation of letters of recommendation.
Fellowships Application Process:
Manages the university’s responsibilities in the fellowships area, including forming interview committees, scheduling interviews and providing feedback, writing institutional endorsement letters, and conducting assessment activities.
Liaising with Honors College:
Works with Honors College faculty and staff in areas of mutual and overlapping concern, such as career advising, professional skills workshops, etc. Interacts with prospective fellowship applicants in the Honors College through teaching, advising, and other activities as appropriate. Assists with Honors College recruitment efforts as needed. Other duties as assigned.
Master's Degree and 5 or more years experience in an academic position involving teaching, research, and/or academic administration.
Negotible start date for employment but no later than August 1, 2018.
Standard Hrs: 37.5; Competitive salary commensurate with experience and market values.
