Application Specialist

DAS Shared Services’ Corporate Systems team currently has an opportunity available for an Application Specialist. The Application Specialist is responsible for the implementation and support of applications and tools to support the internal business needs of client agencies.

Responsibilities & Attributes for Success:
• Act as a subject matter expert and primary point of contact for assigned systems and products
• Analyze and design program logic
• Assist in the formulation of processes and best practices for users of applications
• Perform testing to evaluate new processes, and during
implementation of new applications; actively solicit functional users’ involvement and participation in testing
• Confer with users to evaluate requirements, discuss solutions, and develop a plan of approach
• Identify and develops appropriate solutions to issues
• Project management on an occasional basis screen layouts, reports, and testing criteria to support development of new or enhanced systems
• Prepare program documentation; including, but not limited to: user scenarios, test scenarios, application operation procedures, and test scripts
• Review and analyze user functions, activities, and business needs to develop user stories
• Proactively evaluate available resources and current systems
• Assist in the development of training materials for end users of supported systems
• Participate in pilots, testing, training, and communications in support of system development
• Perform ongoing maintenance and assist in troubleshooting and resolving issues
• Lead recovery actions during program interruptions and other problems
• Coordinate help desk support and ensure the help desk team has the appropriate training related to the Application Specialist’s assigned systems
• Work closely with data owners to ensure systems have the security in place and access is reviewed and approved periodically
• Lead software change management process for assigned systems

What’s required to be considered:
• Bachelor’s degree or comparable experience preferred
• Two or more years' experience in IT support role or equivalent area
• Solid understanding of software development life cycle and basic project methodologies
• Some experience with T-SQL querying (or willing to learn quickly)
• Ability to support custom web and client server applications
• Self-motivated with the ability to follow through on projects in a timely manner
• Excellent customer service, communication, and problem solving skills
• Must demonstrate strong sense of urgency regarding end-user issues
