PACU:

Position Summary:
Under the direct supervision of the PACU Supervisor and according to PACU and hospital policies and procedures, plans, implements, evaluates, and

documents nursing care for one or more patients in the post anesthesia care unit (recovery room). Provides a clean, efficient and safe environment within

the area. Assists with any other activities of the unit.

Knowledge & Skills:

Demonstrates effective working knowledge of equipment needed for patient care. Participates in budget control by using only those supplies necessary

for quality patient care. Make decisions of moderate difficulty. Has direct contact with patients, and family members, physicians, hospital employees and

outside healthcare related persons. Maintains confidentiality regarding patient information. Accepts shift work and takes call on weekends and holidays.

Works with persons whose age categories may include infant, toddler, preschool, school age, adolescent, adult and geriatric. Participates in patient/family

teaching. Must be able to demonstrate understanding of HCA's and St. David's "Patients First" safety initiative by strict compliance to all safety protocols

and procedures.

Education:

REQUIRED: Graduation from an accredited school of nursing.

Experience:

REQUIRED:

Minimum of three years of experience in acute care setting or previous PACU. Basic CPR certification and ACLS. Ability to interpret

basic EKG monitors and data. Customer relations skills. Communication skills include verbal, written, face-to-face, over the

telephone.

PREFERRED: Two or more years previous PACU experience or critical care nursing.

Credentials:

REQUIRED: Licensed by the Texas State Board of Nurse Examiners

PREFERRED: Certification in post anesthesia nursing or ambulatory care.

Associate's Degree/College Diploma
