Sr. Benefits Specialist
Summary: Responsible for administration of WGL s benefits programs, including health and welfare and pension.
Tasks & Responsibilities:
Advise employees on benefits eligibility and provisions of coverage; prepare new hire packets and enroll employees in benefits.
Maintain benefit records and documents and prepare appropriate correspondence and reports; conduct cost analysis of key benefit programs.
Participate in the management of open enrollment activities, including HRIS program changes, updating communications, drafting annual rate sheet and ensuring rates are updated in system.
Participate in updating and testing of Employee Data Management Systems; work closely with applications outsourcing team to ensure that system enhancements are tested and moved into production.
Work with IT Applications Outsourcing team to manage day-to-day operational system issues and have oversight of PeopleSoft table (or HRIS) maintenance and data integrity.
Work with retiree benefits outsourced vendor to ensure processing of eligibility file and provide support for inquiries.
Ensure that WGL s benefits programs are administered in compliance with applicable laws and regulations; assist with audit responses and request for data.
Reconcile and process benefit invoices for payment (as needed).
Provide on-going management and oversight of the Company s Pension plan, including:
o Providing preretirement information and conducting one-on-one meetings to eligible employees and/or former vested employees regarding pension benefits
o Calculating pension benefits and processes employee retirements; building payee records, sending letters to payees; and authorizing pension payments
Respond to employee inquiries regarding the Company s Health and Welfare program and Pension plan.
Assist with the Pension Administrative Outsourcing RFP and Transition to WorkDay HCM.
Skills & Abilities:
Bachelor s degree in business, finance, human resources or related field strongly preferred. CBP/CEBS certification or CBP/CEBS coursework preferred.
A minimum of 5 years of experience in employee benefits administration, pension administration or benefits accounting.
If with an associate s degree additional four years of related experience, if with a high school diploma/G.E.D. an additional two years of related experience.
Self-insured benefits program administration experience preferred.
Experience with HR information system maintenance.
Demonstrated working knowledge of benefit laws and regulations, including ACA requirements, ERISA and Section 125 Cafeteria plans.
Experience responding to, or assisting with, 5500 audits and non-discrimination testing.
Demonstrated ability to establish rapport and effective working relationships with business partners, supervisors, and peers.
Demonstrated ability to present ideas logically and concisely to diverse audiences, both verbally and in writing.
Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality, prioritize tasks successfully work in a group environment.
Demonstrated aptitude for analytics and problem solving.
Demonstrated successful ability to work in a fast-paced environment with competing tasks and meet numerous internal and external deadlines.
Experience processing complex benefits invoices including reconciliations, validations and account coding strongly preferred.
Proven ability to use computer software and applications, including Office365applications (Word, Excel and PowerPoint), to share, retrieve, research and present business information. Experience with WorkDay strongly preferred. Experience with Adobe Writer preferred.
