Pratt & Whitney, a recognized leading producer of the world's most advanced commercial and military turbine engines, is seeking a Welding Professional to join Hot Section Module Center South's manufacturing engineering organization. The welding manufacturing engineering will support turbine airfoil parts manufacturing at Pratt & Whitney East Hartford.

Essential duties and responsibilities:

Develop & implement advanced welding processes including automation on high temperature turbine airfoil components

Processes include MIG/GTAW, TIG, LASER, Braze, preparation, & inspection

Review part models and preliminary design versus design standards, provide manufacturing producability input to designs and part family process standards

Provide input for manufacturing release reviews for Engineering Changes

Provide manufacturing process options, propose trade studies, evaluate manufacturing process maturity

Review process yields and rates, and make suggestions for improvement

Evaluate metallurgical/microstructure results of parts

Help create, maintain, & approve shop floor work instructions (including specifications, engineering changes, QAD/process control, and tooling definition/requirements.)

Implementation of new capital equipment from specification and ordering through delivery, installation and release to production.

Coordinate welding best practices with our Amercon facility in Pennsylvania & provide mentoring, Participate on the P&W welding council

Identify & implement shop floor process optimization & control methods to eliminate/prevent quality turn backs / escapes and reduce overall product costs.

Provide focused & effective leadership in eliminating EH&S/Ergonomics/Human Factors risks and addressing quality issues.

Significant interaction with the hourly work force, tool designers, quality assurance, integrated product teams, systems designers, Information Systems, and materials engineering are typical of the position

Bachelors degree required.: Mechanical, Manufacturing, Metallurgical Engineering, Material Science or equivalent.
Successful candidates must have strong welding background and shop operations experience, with a minimum of 7 years of experience or 5 years with advanced degree.
Due to government contract US Citizenship is required for this position.

Preferred Qualifications:
Technical expertise in welding and joining processing for manufacturing of jet engine components.
Knowledge of inspection methods, process controls, understanding of Lean or Six Sigma tools.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required
Understanding of NC and robotic programming is a plus.

Education: Bachelors degree required. Mechanical, Manufacturing, Metallurgical Engineering, Material Science or equivalent.
