Operations Assistant (Frederick)
Summary: Install, maintain, repair and surveys natural gas facilities independently or under the direction of a senior, higher graded employee when required.
Note: Work may involve rotating shifts in 24 hours, seven days a week operation.
Tasks & Responsibilities:
Assist with installation and maintenance of gas distribution facilities, including excavating and all applicable procedures related to installation and maintenance of facilities, including relighting customer appliances as required.
Executes field credit and collection of delinquent accounts, terminating service where appropriate.
Perform basic installation and maintenance of regulators, measurement equipment, and meters under the direction of a higher graded employee.
Perform general grounds maintenance on all facilities including painting, mowing, as required.
Perform essential utility service work, including AMR change-outs and meter reading.
Assist in the installation of corrosion equipment and monitoring devices.
Assist with leak and corrosion surveys and other studies as required.
Pick up and delivers stock.
May use various equipment, including, but not limited to: various electronic, mechanical and pneumatic tools, testing equipment, computers, Company vehicles and other power operated equipment, such as, crew truck, dump truck, , cranes, backhoe, trencher, tamper, pavement breaker, air hammer, plastic fusion material, gas detection and locating equipment, shut-off equipment and corrosion testing equipment.
Work in confined spaces.
Skills & Abilities:
High School diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.)
Basic computer skills.
Demonstrated verbal communication skills.
Must pass Work Keys Test and pre-qualifying written and practical exam(s) as applicable. Graduation from a hands-on vocational or technical training program (during or post-high school), in areas such as HVAC, plumbing, automotive (body and mechanical).
In place of vocational/technical training, at least six months of experience in auto repair, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, welding, carpentry, landscaping or other construction fields that include the use of hand tools.
Must pass gas odor recognition testing, and must complete respirator qualifications to include all hygiene requirements needed to wear a tight-fitting respirator.
Must complete all assigned training modules, qualifying exams, and field clearances after hire, including Flagging and Plastic Pipe Joint (PPJ mechanical) certifications.
* Wear a respirator while operating in a gaseous atmosphere or confined space.
