Summary of Job Duties
(Note: This summary will be used for keyword search) Residential Operations is part of Housing, Dining, and Auxiliary Enterprises (HDAE). Residential Operations maintains properties consisting of residence halls, single student apartments, family student apartments, and dining commons serving over 10,000 undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, and staff. In addition to providing service to residents, Residential Operations maintains facilities that include conference centers, office spaces, and short term lodging and housing facilities. We welcome over 20,000 conference guests annually.

The Lead Groundskeeper assists with all general duties of maintenance and upkeep with respect to the 200 acres of property that fall within the Grounds Department work areas, including: all residence halls; dining commons; Storke, Santa Ynez, West Campus and San Clemente properties; the apartment buildings in Isla Vista, which includes El Dorado and Westgate; two residential properties, Rudy and Fineta Houses; and other campus areas as assigned.

Provides leadership and direction to grounds staff as required and directed by the Superintendent of Grounds and/or the Sr. Lead Groundskeeper. Provides guidance in the appropriate use and care of all grounds equipment for all grounds staff. Assesses needs of repair and replacement of equipment and furnishings, evaluates new products and provides cost analysis reports, assists in the evaluation of staff and student performance.

Assists with projects and upgrades to grounds, interacts with contractors to obtain needed information. Responsible for completing job assignments in a manner that demonstrates support for HDAE. Works effectively within an ethnically diverse client and staff environment.

Minimum Requirements
Minimum of 3 years as a Groundskeeper, experience in an institution and/or commercial setting. Ex. College Residence Hall, Hotel, resort, school. Ability to motivate staff and maintain positive morale. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with others as a team. Experience in using a computer. Experience in a customer service environment. Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse work force. Ability to communicate and work effectively with staff and others such as, employees from other departments, students, parents, project managers, conference organizers, etc. Organizational experience.

Desirable Requirements
Supervisory experience. Has completed seminars or classes in one of the following: organization, managing people, personal growth, customer service, or other subjects that would be used in a supervisory position and operation of the grounds needs of a Residential complex.
