This position will report to the Cardiac and Vascular Group (CVG) Controller and will lead the CVG Controller's staff as the CVG Assistant Controller. It will closely partner with the business in a broad range of business issues and provide leadership in the decision-making process. This position will provide guidance and demonstrate advanced in-depth knowledge in the accounting and finance activities associated with complex technical accounting matters. This position will demonstrate strong communications skills while partnering across the Medtronic Matrix, including CVG and a variety of Corporate/Regional teams.

A Day in the Life

  • Demonstrate a broad and in-depth understanding of Accounting and Finance processes and policies. Provide oversight and direction to the CVG Finance organization for all accounting and reporting matters, including the following to ensure compliance with accounting principles and MDT processes, legal and ethical standards:

    - Complex arrangements and novel business models


    - Revenue Recognition matters


    - Royalty bearing agreements and their accruals/payments


    - Inventory obsolescence reserves


    - Restructuring activities


    - Business Development and Channel Management matters


    - Minority Investment, Intangible assets, including impairment analysis


    - Adherence to Medtronic financial policies


    - Adoption of new Medtronic financial policies (e.g. Revenue Recognition Standard and Leasing Standard)


    - Continuous education of Medtronic financial policies



  • Member of the CVG Value Based Healthcare Sub council who provides leadership in the implementation of consistent financial processes and procedures to launch new programs worldwide


  • Liaison with Corporate Finance, including being an active representative on the MDT Controller's Council.


  • Partner with the business and enabling functions in a broad range of business issues and provide leadership in the decision-making process, actively participate in managing the business and in establishing its strategic direction.


  • Organize and structure business information to identify specific risks and opportunities. Apply quantitative and qualitative factors, skills and business experience, to arrive at meaningful conclusions and recommendations. Develop innovative alternatives and solutions when issues arise.


  • Gain a comprehensive understanding of the CVG control environment. Effectively apply internal control principles and objectives.


  • Provide leadership and direction to CVG Finance in the monthly, quarterly and fiscal yearend CVG closing processes.


  • Provide leadership and direction to a team of five professional staff

    o Provide direction and guidance to ensure efficient completion of individual and group objectives


    o Conduct regular performance discussions, provide development opportunities and support individual career growth objectives that drive positive momentum


    o Recruit and onboard analysts and Summer Interns to support full pipeline of new talent into the CVG Controllership group


    Must Have: Minimum Requirements



    • BA/BS Degree in Accounting or Finance

    • 7+ years varied experience in accounting or finance with a Bachelor's Degree in Finance or Accounting; or, 5+ years varied experience in accounting or finance with a Master's Degree

    • 5+ years of progressive leadership experience
