Idaho National Laboratory (INL) is seeking a well-qualified Postdoctoral Researcher in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, Material Science & Engineering or comparable discipline for the Pyrochemistry and Molten Salt Systems Department. You will focus on one or more of the following subjects: (i) high temperature electrochemical processes such as sensors for molten salt-based reprocessing or identification of corrosion species in flowing molten salt, (ii) concentration of fission product species in molten salt, the remote production of high-level waste forms, and waste form characterization and testing, (iii) electro refining and electrolysis of actinoid or lanthanoid metals in molten salt-based reprocessing systems, or (iv) chemistry of flowing molten salt systems and corrosion of materials in these systems.

You are expected to be a strong asset to our interdisciplinary R&D team and work effectively both alone and as a team member. You must be self-motivated but also take direction from other team members and peers.
The position entails writing scientific manuscripts for journal publication, and presentation of research results at national and international conferences and meetings.


Ph.D. requirements must be completed by the commencement of appointment and within the previous 5 years
Ph.D. in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, Material Science & Engineering or an equivalent discipline
Demonstrated oral and published written communication skills
Prior hands-on experience in high temperature molten salt experiments or laboratory experience relevant to high-level waste form development
Familiarity with analytical chemistry/using techniques such as XRD, electron microscopy, chemical analyses.
U.S. citizenship/permanent resident or interest to obtain
Experience is transport and thermodynamic properties measurements using QD PPMS device is desired.
Knowledge of transport, thermal and thermodynamic properties of solids.
