RESPONSIBILITIES

Idaho National Laboratory (INL) is seeking a well-qualified Postdoctoral Associate in Material Science, Nanoscience, Nanoengineering, Electrical Engineering or comparable discipline for the Infrastructure Security Department. You will focus on electrospinning silica nanofibers and forming fibrous mats or yarns.

You will be expected to be a strong asset to our interdisciplinary R&D team and work effectively both alone and as a team member. You must be self-motivated but also take direction from other team members and peers.
The position entails writing scientific manuscripts for journal publication, and presentation of research results at national and international conferences and meetings.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
PhD requirements must be completed by commencement of appointment and within the previous 5 years
PhD in Material Science, Nanoscience, Nanoengineering, Electrical Engineering or comparable discipline
Demonstrated oral and published written communication skills in English language
1 year of experience with electrospinning nanofibers, controlling nanofiber morphology, and nanofiber characterization.
1 year of experience with SEM

DESIRED QUALIFICIATIONS
Familiarity with using modeling techniques such as density function theory, reactive molecular dynamics, and finite element modeling, and data-driven materials informatics methods
Experience with electrospinning inorganic materials
Experience with a coaxial (core/shell) needle electrospinning configuration
Preparation of freestanding nanofiber mats
Nanoparticle synthesis (silica nanoparticles are a plus)
Experience electrospinning nanofibers into a yarn
Good publication record
