Position Summary

This position is responsible for creating and executing on all aspects of a digital marketing program. The program is designed to expand and support J. Craig Venter Institute's mission of public education on basic genomic research and its applications. The applicant will develop a robust digital marketing program (in conjunction with the head of communications and head of development) that will enhance the public relation programs and increase donors and fundraising efforts at J. Craig Venter Institute.

Essential Functions

  • Oversee the development of the Institute's rebranding initiative. Ensure brand awareness and generate demand using various platforms to include social media, display and content marketing platform.


  • Partner with various departments to ensure digital and social marketing experiences are supported within the brand's overall marketing plan.


  • Collaborate with head of communications to enhance and update website. Assist with SEO and SEM. Create landing pages, and dynamic marketing content.


  • Plan, create and execute marketing strategies. Produce and develop podcasts, video and digital campaigns.


  • Create marketing and collateral materials to support the institute's strategy ensuring consistency with brand / graphic standards.


  • Support marketing efforts by working with the digital team to develop organizational email distribution schedule and content strategy. Serve as a part of the team that develops content, designs emails and handles email distribution and analytics.

  • Bachelor's degree in Science or equivalent required, Master's degree preferred. Minimum of eight to ten years of experience in marketing, advertising, project management, written communications.


  • Demonstrated expertise as a digital storyteller leveraging multiple facets of modern digital media landscape.


  • Strong interpersonal skills that allow you to interact comfortably with a wide range of management levels both internal and external.


  • Must be highly self-motivated, personally & professionally resilient and capable of working independently and collaboratively.


  • Capable of creating and executing a complex marketing communication strategies and programs.


  • Superior verbal and written communications skills are required. Dynamic speaking skills are desired.


  • Strong copy writing skills across all media vehicles, including brand presentations, press releases, social media, blogs, briefs, packaging and sales collateral.
