Summary Statement
Studio Assistant to artist, Newton Harrison, an internationally acclaimed, founding pioneer of the ecological arts movement. Now the founding director for the Center of the Study of the Force Majeure, an art-science nonprofit associated with the Arts Division a UC Santa Cruz.

Qualifications / Competencies
Proficient in the use of Microsoft office, especially power point and word

Ability to type memos with accuracy

Ability to work in a highly collaborative environment

Preferred Qualifications / Competencies
Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training

Some basic experience with InDesign and Photoshop

Some familiarity with the arts and ecology

Special Conditions of Employment
Selected candidate will be required to pass a criminal history background check

Must possess a valid license to drive in the State of California

Ability to work some evenings and weekends

Regular work tasks will include, but are not limited to:

- Reviewing and writing emails for Newton Harrison

- File management and organization (both physical and electronic)

- Keeping the artist's calendar and resume up to date

- Doing research and power point presentations

- Locating images that are requested

- Taking/transcribing notes at meetings

- Driving and travel arrangements as needed

- Occasional support in travel to foreign countries for exhibitions

- Mailing, picking up and packing art work

- Occasionally participate in the production of art works

- Able to become familiar with the Harrison oeuvre (see book: The Time of the Force Majeure , After 45 years, Counterforce is on the Horizon, a copy will be provided to the chosen candidate. Also see Harrison Studio website).
