BASIC PURPOSE: This position obtains appropriate blood samples following laboratory procedures and guidelines by proper and various methods from patient orders on a daily basis. They collect, transport and process these specimens in a timely manner. They follow established guidelines for processing of the specimens to include accessioning, centrifugation, and delivery of specimens to technical areas. They follow all safety and infection control guidelines established by the hospital and the Laboratory. They also assist Team Members and/or Supervisors in whatever project or task assigned to facilitate efficient and accurate specimen processing. Complies with the Memorial Health Compliance Program, related policies and procedures and the Code of Business Practices; reports instances of perceived and actual non-compliance to Team Leaders or through other reporting mechanisms.
* High School or GED
* Specialty training beyond high school in Phlebotomy and/or customer service
SPECIAL SKILLS REQUIRED:
* Phlebotomy on-the-job by experience or education with both theory and application; Computer/ Clerical skills
* Phlebotomy certification from an approved professional credentialing organization, i.e. ASCP, AMT, NHA, etc. Professional certification or licensure from other approved education/training programs may be determined as equivalent on an individual basis, i.e. Medical Assistant, EMT, Nursing, etc.
