JOB OVERVIEW
Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery is a medical/dental specialty which combines surgical training with dental expertise for the treatment of infections and degenerative diseases, traumatic injuries, tumors, and growth abnormalities of the jaw, teeth and the Temporomandibular joint. The primary activities of the UCSF Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery are patient care, teaching and research. Patient care is provided at seven sites - Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VAMC), Zuckerberg San Francisco General (ZSFG), Mission Bay, Moffitt, 707 Parnassus, 513 Parnassus and 100 Buchanan.

This Treatment Coordinator / Biller position exists to assist new patients through the registration process for the Oral and Maxillofacial practices located at Parnassus, ensuring that the correct medical and dental information is received, the referral is in place and any other documentation is received prior to the arrival at the practice. The Coordinator will also go over the patient treatment plan following the visit, to determine insurance benefit and patient responsibility on procedures done. The Coordinator will assist the patient with any insurance authorization that is required and may assist in scheduling procedures that will be done in the hospital.

This Treatment Coordinator / Biller is also responsible for verification of registration and the billing of the professional fees associated with the services in the clinic. The employee will contact insurance companies to follow-up on existing claims to ensure timely payment. This position will also respond to questions that patients may have regarding their account balances and how it relates to their insurance. This role is essential to the financial strength of the practice.

Required Qualifications: High School diploma or GED and four years of related administrative experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Two years experience working in a medical or dental office, billing medical insurance, for Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, ENT, or Head and Neck specialty practice
Two years experience with collection of past due medical or dental accounts
Two years experience communicating with patients regarding their medical insurance, being able to define and explain simple term
Two years of computer skills, demonstrated experience working with patient care software similar to WINOMS or Apex
Two years experience working and speaking with medical or dental insurance companies on a daily basis
Three years demonstrated customer service skills
Planning and organizing skills
Ability to multi-task and prioritize, excellent time management skills
Courteous phone demeanor
Accuracy and attention to detail
Adaptable, able to think on your feet
Ability to work alone with minimal supervision
