JOB OVERVIEW
Under the supervision of a higher level Mechanician, the individuals perform skilled and semi-skilled mechanical work involved in the assembly, maintenance, and repair of specialized apparatus.

The Dental Laboratory Mechanician Helper is typically used for trainees who are acquiring journeyman skills in the operation of all standard machine shop equipment and may perform additional related craft duties at a semi-skilled level.

The Dental Laboratory Mechanician Helper works closely with the Senior Mechanician (Sr. Mechanician) and is responsible for assisting the Mechanician in the management of all dental operatory equipment, simulations units (130) and various laboratory equipment used in the delivery of patient care and dental student education in the UCSF Dental Center. This position reports directly to Student Store Manager and is part of the general support for equipment in the building. There are approximately 340 operatories or dental units, each operatory is supplied with a variety of equipment. The Dental Laboratory Mechanician Helper also supports the Buchanan Dental Center 21 operatories and wet labs located offsite.

This position is on call to respond to various calls throughout the Dental Center during working hours and ensure the equipment is working in order to facilitate the delivery of patient care in the various clinics.

Required Qualifications: The ability to read instructions, understand directions and sketches for modification and fabrication of components and mechanism to solve problems is critical

Preferred Qualifications: Two to four year college degree and two years of experience in general shop work or in a skilled trade, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Two years of experience with dental or medical equipment, operatory equipment maintenance and repair
Experience repairing and maintaining operatory dental simulation units or similar equipment
Experience working in dental or healthcare environment
