The data analyst partners and consults with business intelligence analysts and school stakeholders to identify, discern, assess, and evaluate underlying business needs and requirements. The data analyst scopes the query, asset or model that will serve as a consistent and reliable solution. Based on the request, conduct significant discovery across multiple databases/warehouses and source systems to assess/scope query to determine extent to which business need/request can be accomplished. The data analyst then develops requested queries (primarily SQL), assets, extracts, data models, and other solutions to meet the data needs of business partners and the Office of Business Intelligence.
The data analyst will lead and provide analysis for transitioning existing data assets into a comprehensive business intelligence environment by developing methods for database design, validation reports, etc. Engage and consult with university and CAITS technical staff to effectively communicate technical requirements for the data assets and accompanying ETL as well as monitoring progress and ensuring data integrity.
Additionally, the data analyst provides technical and operational support, information and analysis to school leadership and external business partners to deliver consistent and reliable data-sharing and transfers, and assist in strategic and long-term planning and decision making. This includes developing queries, data assets, and SSRS reports to enable high-availability and self-serve methods. The data analyst will also oversee regular and high priority data-sharing and migration activities to ensure processes are completed in a timely, and satisfactory manner.
REQUIRED: Four-year degree BS/BA, plus 1-3 years' data analysis experience.
Combination of experience/education at a 2:1 ratio.
Demonstrated experience with query development and data analysis. Working knowledge of SQL, including ability to write queries of intermediate complexity. Understanding of relational data models and data warehousing. Understanding of basic HTML and web development. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.Preferred Qualifications
