Job Summary Helps to coordinate and direct the day-to-day coding educational activities. Facilitates and provides coding educational classes/presentations to staff, as required/when needed. Responsibilities also include assisting Coding Leadership in root cause analysis of coding quality issues, performing account reviews, and preparing training documents to assist with coding quality action plans.

Duties (included but not limited to):
Responds to coding-related questions from HSC coding staff
Performs account reviews for appeals that are part of the HIM Coding PART process
Enters all applicable changes that occur as a result of appeals in C-PART, into the appropriate abstracting system
Provides Coding Integrity Specialist (CIS) and CQR education as needed
Initiates the rebilling process as required per policy on special projects
Monitors staff using Computer Assisted Coding (CAC) for coding comprehension and workflow proficiency. Validates user error vs CAC natural language processing (NLP) improvement
o Interpreting information gathered in interviews and focus groups
o Identify user acceptance patterns
o Identify system integrity through two independent coders
o Assess and report the outcomes
Researches coding opportunities and escalate as needed
Assists in the review, improvement of processes, education, troubleshooting and recommend prioritization of issues.
Assists in data collection, compilation, analysis, and trending of CAC precision and recall data
Assists in identifying medical record documentation improvement opportunities as needed to improve the CAC system precision and recall performance
Recommends modifications to lexicons, clinical phrases, grammar, coding system rules, and region titles for the NLP engine to improve precision and recall rates as needed
Provides and creates education as needed
Participate in touchpoints with vendors and corporate vendor management team to share and document best practices
Works with Coding Education Manager to design education plans and education material content
Monitors QA results to assist Coding Leadership in root cause analysis and educational opportunities
Assists with curriculum development
Performs an annual education needs assessment as input to the strategic coding education program and provides this assessment to the Coding Education Manager

Communicates Coding topics and/or question trends to Coding Education Manager for global education
Communicates available global education coursework from the Coding Education Manager to applicable staff Coaches and mentors coding staff as they develop and grow their coding skills
Provides skilled coding support through regularly scheduled coding meetings and as the need arises
Researches external sources for common coding trends and questions
Works on special projects as assigned
Applies adult learning concepts when developing, delivering or assisting others for educational programs
Provides high level of customer service
Practices and demonstrates adherence to the Company s Code of Conduct and ethics philosophy and Company s Mission and Values
Completes other duties as assigned
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
Communication - communicates clearly and concisely, verbally and in writing.

High School graduate or GED equivalent required, undergraduate (associates or bachelors) degree in HIM/HIT preferred.
Proven work experience in areas of coding education strongly preferred.
Minimum of 5 years acute care inpatient/outpatient coding experience required.
Minimum of 3 years coding auditing/monitoring experience strongly preferred.
RHIA, RHIT or CCS preferred.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORKING CONDITIONS
Position requires prolonged sitting/standing, some bending, stooping, walking and stretching. Requires eye hand coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, photocopier, telephone, calculator and other office equipment. Requires normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare and communicate appropriate reports or other information. Requires lifting papers/boxes and pushing/pulling up to 25 pounds occasionally. Work is performed in an office environment or hospital setting. Work may be
