Job Description:

This position is located off campus at 2020 Industrial Blvd at the Oklahoma Petroleum Information Center (OPIC) in Norman, Oklahoma. This position functions as a dedicated core technician responsible for servicing select clients, ensuring that requests are filled in a timely manner. This responsibility includes: Coordinating with OPIC staff to ensure core layouts and other services requested are completed as scheduled; Leads and organizes efforts for services such as core Gamma-Ray scanning, core slabbing and plugging services, core photography, and semi-automatic sample and cutting washing; Keeps track of materials to be processed and records time involved for each project; Oversees special clients intake requests of new and existing cores to OPIC and ensure external core and core material transfers are completed in a timely, efficient manner; Reports the status of core transfers both in and out on a monthly basis; Maintains cleaning schedule for the warehouse expansion area and other duties as assigned.

Required Education: Some College - Less than 1 Yr OR equivalent combination of education/job related experience, AND:


  • 18-36 months experience in Laboratory Science/Applied Science or Research

  • Advanced math skills


  • Advanced computer skills with wide knowledge of business software


  • Read and understand complex written materials such as blueprints, metrics or technical manuals


  • Able to communicate well and build rapport quickly with students, faculty and staff


  • Strong initiative to solve problems

  • Must be able to pay strong attention to detail

Advertised Physical Requirements:


  • Frequent exposure to heavy lifting, extreme temperate changes and exposure to potential hazardous task or conditions; frequent expose to onerous odors, regular exposure to safety hazards from using chemical sand/or equipment.


Departmental Preferences:




  • 18-36 Months experience handling warehouse mechanical equipment

  • Fork lift license strongly preferred.

  • Bachelor's degree in Geology preferred.
