Category Engineering Description GPI has an exciting, entry-level opening for two (2) Assistant Team Leader Trainees to be assigned to our NYSDOT Overhead Sign Structure Inspection and NYSDOT Biennial Bridge Inspection Contracts. The objective of this position is to increase the proficiency of minority, women and economically disadvantaged individuals through on-the-job training. GPI is an employee-owned, consulting engineering, planning, survey, mapping, construction management and inspection firm that specializes in the innovative development, design and construction of infrastructure and building systems.
Upon the completion of the 2-year trainee term the trainee will be approved by NYSDOT as an Assistant Team Leader in the Overhead Sign Structure Inspection or Biennial Bridge Inspection programs. Women, minority, disadvantaged and veteran candidates are encouraged to apply.
Prospective candidates for this position should meet the following minimum credentials:
Associates Degree in Civil or Structural Technology from an accredited school.
Ability to work comfortably close to expressway traffic.
Ability to work comfortably in aerial bucket platforms and while climbing at heights up to 20 feet (while wearing a fall protection harness).
Ability to work under adverse weather conditions.
Corrected visual acuity of at least 20/40.
Ability to follow instructions and record field notes.
A valid NYS driving license
Position Requirements MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Qualified candidate must have a valid driver's license and retain a clean motor vehicle report (MVR) for final consideration.
Possess a personal vehicle for use during the day for transportation to and from and on or around a job site
Ability to read and understand plans and direction given in the English language
Ability to write in English
Basic computer skills
Ability to create and or edit Microsoft Word documents
Ability to create and or edit Microsoft Excel documents
Possess the ability to stand on your feet for approximately 3 hours minimum a day up to 8 hours a day.
Possess the ability to traverse a construction job site consisting of uneven ground varying in height and consistency of material Variation of elevation 12" or less (mud, gravel, rutted ground etc.)
Possess the ability to climb a ladder varying from 6 feet to 20 foot extension
Possess the ability to ride in a mechanical lift or bucket truck up to a height of 100 feet
Be physically able to don and wear and operate personal fall arresting apparatus.
Be able to wear GPI standard PPE, i.e. hard hats, safety vest, work boots, safety glasses/goggles
Be able to lift and or carry a weight of 30-50 lbs. (concrete inspection specimens and required equipment)
Be able to work in a confined space by definition of OSHA.
Physically able to wear and work utilizing a respirator or SCBA type of breathing apparatus.
