Position Description

PRIMARY PURPOSE: Senior Accountant for KMI Corporate Accounting Department

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Prepare monthly journal entries and account reconciliations related to various corporate accounting functions (pension/OPEB benefits, intercompany balancing/settlements, restricted stock compensation, debt, captive insurance, environmental reserves, accruals, amortizations)
• Monitor accounts receivable aging for Corporate segment • Analyze financial information; recognize and report on significant variances, trends and irregularities
• Prepare weekly forecast and annual budget information for areas of responsibility • Assist with researching technical accounting transactions/issues for areas of responsibility
• Adhere to deadlines established on monthly close calendar • Participate in audits and provide necessary support to comply with requests for information or response to audit exceptions
• Timely respond to all data requests
• Assist with internal process improvements
• Assist with SEC filings and Federal and State Regulatory Reports as needed
• Participate in invoice verification and coding as necessary
• Regularly use spreadsheets, databases and word processing software and periodically learn new software applications
• Other daily, weekly and monthly duties, and special projects as assigned
• Create and maintain productive working relationships with internal and external customers and departments supported
• Deal with a wide variety of people with courtesy and professionalism
• Maintain a regular, dependable attendance and high level of performance
Position Requirements

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education:
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or equivalent experience is required Experience / specific knowledge:
• In addition to the education requirement, minimum seven years direct work experience in an accounting-related position, specifically experience in an automated, multi-entity financial system

Competencies, skills, and abilities:
• Intermediate to advanced proficiency level with Microsoft applications, including but not limited to Outlook, Excel, and Word
• Ability to retrieve and analyze large amounts of data in a short amount of time from customized data bases
• Strong analytical skills and logical thought processes, with the ability to identify and resolve simple to complex general accounting issues
• Must be self-motivated and detail oriented
• Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with others, and maintain confidentiality
• Ability to complete work in a prioritized and organized fashion
• Ability to successfully perform multiples tasks, often with strict or changing deadlines
• Must be able to work with a team, take direction from others, focus attention on details, follow work rules, and adhere to established work schedules
• Ability to identify, understand and meet/exceed expectations in an employee/employer relationship
• Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
• Ability to perform the required and expected duties with minimal supervision
• Must be able to perform all essential and marginal functions of the job

PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, etc.

Above the minimum requirements; not required but advantageous in this position:
• General understanding of the energy industry • Knowledge of FERC rules and Code of Federal Regulations (CFR)
• Experience with Lawson financial software, specifically the General Ledger
• CPA license a plus
