Mazars USA LLP has an excellent opportunity for a State and Local Tax (“SALT”) Compliance Manager in our New York Office. The SALT Compliance Manager will be primarily responsible for all aspects of the SALT compliance practice including reviewing complex multistate tax returns; planning; technical research, writing and issue resolution; controversy defense; obtaining guidance from government authorities; and training and development of staff.    The SALT Compliance Manager may also perform certain consulting services from time to time, such as voluntary disclosure requests; due diligence; and drafting internal and external tax alerts. The SALT Manager will have the responsibility for assisting in developing client relationships and providing work product.  This critical position will report to the Practice Leader of State and Local Tax Services and be an integral member of growing the SALT practice.  

JOB DESCRIPTION


  • Significant interaction with partners, clients, and prospects

  • Perform and review technical tax research

  • Prepare or check significant SALT returns

  • Assist with representation of taxpayers before SALT taxing authorities

  • Obtain guidance from SALT authorities

  • Perform SALT due diligence

  • Identify, and implement planning opportunities and strategies

  • Draft tax alerts for the website and email distribution to clients

  • Supervise, train, and mentor staff

JOB REQUIREMENTS


  • Minimum of 7 years of experience with at least 3 years of related to SALT Services in a public accounting firm.

  • Experience/expertise with NY & NJ taxes and multistate compliance

  • Candidate must have a Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a Bachelor’s degree, plus all required courses to sit for CPA

  • CPA license a +

  • Advanced degree in taxation preferred

  • Good interpersonal skills and a strong desire to advance as a professional

  • Ability to serve a large number of client relationships

  • Ability to prioritize tasks with competing deadlines

  • Keen attention to details

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to work well within a team environment

  • Ability to train and develop staff
