Principal R&D Scientist - Materials COE Join the industry leader to design the next generation of breakthroughs
The Kansas City National Security Campus (KCNSC) is a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) facility managed and operated by Honeywell Federal Manufacturing & Technology (FM&T). Our primary business is to manufacture sophisticated mechanical, electronic, and engineered material components for our nation's defense system. To accomplish this, we research, develop, and deploy some of the most advanced design and manufacturing technologies in use in the United States today. This highly visible role as Center of Excellence (COE) leader for Materials will provide the opportunity to showcase and grow both technical and organizational leadership, as the person in this position will develop and lead technology strategy related to applied materials engineering across the KCNSC.
This role will be responsible for:
Maturing and expanding the Materials COE, including articulating benefits to partners and customers
Working with CTO, Chief Scientist and peer COE leaders to assure alignment in strategic R&D roadmaps
Partnering with Program Management to identify and allocate discretionary R&D funding
Working with management to identify and engage technical resources
Drive and influence materials-based technology insertion in future national security systems.

You Must Have:
Must be an U.S. Citizen in order to obtain a DOE Q level clearance
Bachelor's Degree or higher in Engineering (ABET accredited), Physics, Science or related technical/scientific field
Minimum ten (10) years experience in challenging and accountable engineering roles
Minimum of four (4) years experience leading research and development projects
Advanced degree in engineering, science or applicable business discipline
Leadership experience managing large complex projects with history of successful outcomes
Experience reflective of ability to negotiate, positively influence leaders, and team with peers to drive resolution for mutually beneficial outcomes
Demonstrated experience developing and implementing strategic initiatives
Experience negotiating with and successfully influencing the National Labs and NNSA
Experience managing and forecasting expense/operating budgets
Demonstrated ability to develop and implement strategic multi-site initiatives
Six Sigma certification (green belt minimum)
Interpersonal skills - the ability to build relationships and communicate with all levels of organization
Strong communication skills - verbal, written and presentation
Experience and knowledge of the Intellectual Property process
Experience working with purchase order contracts
Ability to travel up to 30%
