Huntington Ingalls Industries - Mission Driven Innovative Solutions Inc. (HII-MDIS) provides mission-critical engineering and technical service to Information Technology, Federal Civilian, and National Security, Aerospace & Defense and International government and commercial customers at over 100 locations worldwide.
HII-MDIS is currently seeking a Non-Intrusive Inspection System (NIIS) Mechanical Engineer to work in Abingdon, MD.
Duties and Responsibilities (to include but not be limited to the following):
The NIIS Mechanical Engineer is a subject matter expert (SME) and responsible for evaluating and reverse engineering parts for the NIIS, NIIS platform, and ancillary equipment.
Read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and computer-generated reports.
Confer with FSRs to implement operating procedures, resolve system malfunctions, and provide technical information
Research and analyze specifications, manuals, and other data to evaluate the feasibility, cost, and maintenance requirements of the NIIS systems.
Specify system components or direct modification of products to ensure conformance with engineering design and performance specifications of systems.
Research, design, evaluate, install, operate, and maintain mechanical products, equipment, systems and processes to meet requirements, applying knowledge of engineering principles.
Investigate equipment failures and difficulties to diagnose faulty operation, and to make recommendations to management.
Conduct research that tests and analyzes the feasibility, design, operation and performance of equipment, components and systems.
Recommend design modifications and comparable replacement parts to eliminate machine or system malfunctions.
Qualifications and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering
Five (5) years’ relevant mechanical/maintenance experience.
Experience writing clear, concise and comprehensive plans.
Excellent written and oral communications skills
Candidate must be a U.S. citizen, possess a Secret Security Clearance, possess or able to obtain a U.S. Passport and U.S. and International Drivers License’s.
U.S. Military service veteran or experience working with the U.S. military and interfacing directly with uniformed military personnel, understanding military protocol and Chain of Command.
Experience reverse engineering system components and researching alternative solutions.
Must possess and maintain an active Security Clearance at the Secret level or higher.
