CFO - Expat Assignment in Brazil

The Chief Financial Officer position is accountable for the administrative, financial, and risk management operations of the company, to include the development of a financial and operational strategy metrics tied to that strategy, and the ongoing development and monitoring of control systems designed to preserve company assets and report accurate financial results. This position will act as a co-CFO to our Amil insurance business in Brazil. Candidates will need to be able to commit to a minimum of 2 years on an expat assignment living in São Paulo, Brazil.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Share UnitedHealthcare and U.S. insurance industry best practices with the Amil finance team in order to support their accelerated performance
  • Identify the next generation of finance leaders and develop them to prepare for future leadership roles
  • Through execution on day-to-day activities (i.e. medical reserving, underwriting, etc.) identify areas to support the existing finance team via education and process enhancements
  • Create processes, reporting, analysis, etc., as defined by UHG best practices that bring increased financial discipline to the business. Teach local finance leaders to maintain that best in class discipline and drive to constant learning and improvement.
  • In partnership with the CFO, Amil:
    • Provide monthly financial reporting of key business initiatives
    • Provide ongoing financial analysis of development and operational results against the budget
    • Work side-by-side with the business team and finance personnel within UHC Global to fully understand the business and support the financial goals and objectives of Amil and UHC Global overall.
    • Develop and implement controls to support these goals/objectives as needed
    • Provide analysis and support for developing ideas, programs and projects
    • Develop systems for key financial and operating initiatives, as needed, as business growth occurs & matures
    • Researches economic progressions to assist with the organization's financial planning; presents monthly, quarterly, annual operating results with findings and recommendations to internal stakeholders; and prepares budgets and related analysis in conjunction with centralized support areas
    • Generate forecasts and analyze trends in sales, SG&A, provider performance, product line profitability, membership, medical costs, premium yields, and other areas of the business
    • Provides comprehensive balanced advice on finance policies
    • Develops and executes strategies that span a large business unit
    • Directs others to resolve business problems that affect multiple functions or disciplines

Required Qualifications:
  • 5+ year's experience in insurance, specifically in a finance role supporting a health plan
  • Advanced knowledge of the healthcare industry (5 plus years)
  • Ability to commit to a minimum of 2 years on an expat assignment living in São Paulo, Brazil.
  • Experience reporting to Executive Leadership in a strategic partnership capacity
  • Ability to complete complex projects and influence change in complicated, fast paced, matrix environment
  • Strong working knowledge of financial systems, statements and reports
  • Demonstrated success partnering with, leading and influencing multiple teams responsible for complex operations
  • Ability to influence multiple stakeholders at executive levels
  • Ability to drive strategy and growth decisions using strong insights into business and customers
  • Experience with mergers and acquisitions providing a deep dive into a broad range of business decisions and operations
  • Capability to deliver analytics and insights that support strategy and decision making
  • A willingness to learn, take on new opportunities and lead teams effectively through change
  • Skill in providing meaningful context around financial and business performance to internal and external stakeholder groups
  • A proven track record of excellent personal and team performance, including in high pressure/high risk situations
